About DemocraCents

Our Mission

DemocraCents was created to help everyday citizens understand where their tax dollars go. We believe that government spending should be transparent and accessible to everyone, not just policy experts and economists.

By breaking down complex budget data into personal, understandable terms, we empower people to make informed decisions about civic engagement and hold their representatives accountable.

What We Do

We provide free tools that show you exactly how your federal and state tax contributions are spent across different government departments and programs. Our calculator takes your annual tax amounts and breaks them down into easy-to-understand dollar amounts.

In addition to our calculator, we publish educational content about government budgets, spending trends, and civic participation. We're constantly expanding to include more granular data, including local government spending.

Our Data Sources

We primarily use official government sources for our budget data:

• Federal Budget: USAspending.gov and the U.S. Treasury's Bureau of the Fiscal Service
• State Budgets: Each state's official budget office or department of finance

We update our data annually when new budget information becomes available, and we clearly mark the fiscal year for each dataset.

Privacy & Transparency

Your privacy is important to us. All calculations happen directly in your browser - we never collect, store, or transmit your tax information.

We're committed to transparency in everything we do. Our methodology is publicly documented, our data sources are cited, and we welcome questions and feedback from our community.
